What is Manychat?

You’ve seen the move a thousand times: “Comment PODCAST and I’ll send you the episode.” A minute later the commenter has a DM with the link. Nobody on the creator’s team typed it. That’s Manychat.

It watches your comments, story replies, and DMs, with Instagram as its strongest channel and TikTok, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp also supported. When someone uses a keyword, it sends them whatever you set up: a link to the full episode, a free checklist, a newsletter signup, a discount code from a sponsor. It’s an official Meta partner, which matters, because unofficial DM bots are how accounts get restricted.

Why creators use it

  • It turns comments into clicks. Links in captions aren’t clickable on Instagram, and “link in bio” loses people. “Comment a word” keeps the post clean, and every request is a comment on the post rather than a silent exit.
  • The link arrives in a DM, where people actually tap it. Asking someone to go to your profile, find the link in bio, and click it again loses most of them on the way. A DM loses far fewer.
  • It builds a list you own. Each person who triggers a flow becomes a contact you can message again. Pair it with a lead magnet and an email platform like Beehiiv and every viral reel feeds your newsletter instead of disappearing.
  • It works with clips. If you cut long episodes into shorts with Opus Clip, the clip can say “comment FULL” and send viewers to the whole episode on YouTube or Spotify.

Pricing (checked 4 November 2026)

Manychat bills on active contacts, meaning the people you actually interacted with that month, not the size of your list.

  • Free: 25 active contacts a month, 2 channels, up to 4 live triggers, Manychat branding.
  • Essential: $17/month, or $14/month billed annually. 250 active contacts, unlimited automations, no branding.
  • Pro: $39/month, or $29/month billed annually. 2,500 active contacts, 3 channels, broadcasts, Manychat AI.
  • Business: $99/month, or $69/month billed annually. 7,500 active contacts, unlimited channels.

If you go over your limit, automations keep running and you pay a small fee for each extra contact. You can cap overages so a viral post doesn’t surprise you. Essential and Pro have a 14-day free trial, and the Free plan needs no card.

What to know

The free plan used to allow 1,000 contacts; it now allows 25 active ones a month. One reel with a few hundred “send it” comments blows straight through that, so the free plan is for testing a flow, not running one. The point to upgrade is the first post you expect to do well.

Instagram and TikTok also change their messaging rules a few times a year, and flows sometimes break when they do. After any big platform update, comment your own keyword from a second account and check the DM still arrives.

Who it’s for

Creators on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook with a regular call to action: podcasters pushing full episodes, educators handing out free guides, anyone growing a newsletter, and creators who share sponsor codes or product links. If your audience lives mostly on YouTube, where you can’t automate comment replies like this, skip it for now.

Verdict

The standard tool for the “comment a word” playbook, and the cheapest way to turn engagement into clicks and subscribers. Test a flow on Free, then move to Essential before the post you actually want to perform.
